Dolphin Tale

DolphinsWe did a family trip to the movies over the weekend, saw Dolphin Tale. Enjoyable, though the acting was a little bit over the top most times. It was obviously a story made up into a movie. The kids kind of over-acted a little bit. But still good entertainment.

While the movie was rolling along I had (as usual) plenty of time to pick my popcorn and ponder the world.

One of the threads that stuck with me was the relationship between Kyle Connellan, the older cousin, and the young boy Nathan Sawyer, punctuated by Kyle giving the little one a swiss army knife with the following words engraved on it: “Family is Forever”. And I agree. When people are put together in a family, it is forever. Divorce is not an option, it breaks too many things. Besides, you are still family, so you haven’t solved any problems by divorcing. Rather put your energy towards fixing the things that are broken, than fighting your ex for the rest of your life.

Then there was the scene where Dr. Cameron McCarthy (Morgan Freeman) talks to Kyle and Kyle (who was injured in the war) is complaining that he is a broken man. And I was so deeply following Kyle because I sometimes feel that I am also broken. And then, the doctor picks up a glass, smashes it on the floor and says: “Now that is broken. You are just hurting”. It made me think. Sometimes we are just hurting a little when we complain that we are broken.

The movie is about hope, about not giving up, about believing in can-do. It is a good story for children.
