Books make awesome gifts

Predictably Irrational

Softcover image

Books are wonderful and long lasting gifts. I received the book “Predictably Irrational: The Hidden Forces That Shape Our Decisions” by Dan Ariely as a Christmas gift and it makes fascinating reading.

Basically he investigates why smart people sometimes make irrational decisions. In this book he takes an original look at the problem of why we feel better when we buy more expensive products. He talks about the perceived value of items. He says that our expectations are influencing our opinions and decisions.

In this astounding book, behavioural economist Dan Ariely cuts to the heart of our strange behaviour, demonstrating how irrationality often supplants rational thought and that the reason for this is embedded in the very structure of our minds. Predicatably Irrational brilliantly blends everyday experiences with a series of illuminating and often surprising experiments, that will change your understanding of human behaviour.

Ariely says that by recognising these patterns we can make better decisions in business and our lives. Great read.
